When it comes to family, actions speak louder than words—they echo into the next generation. Your children and grandchildren may forget what you say, but they’ll never forget what you do.

All children—you and me—long for the approval of their parents…especially their fathers. Every parent wants to be approved by his or her child—to be a hero. As that desire grows, so does a parent’s insecurity. What are we to do with all of this?

When it comes to family, the only thing we all have in common is: conflict. Family conflict is like no other because when you win an argument in your family, you don’t really win anything. The conflict is never fully resolved. What if there was a way to resolve family conflict by dealing with it at its source?

In his letter to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul drew from Jesus’ use of power what is perhaps the most powerful relational teaching of all—an instruction that changes everything in family dynamics. It all comes down to asking a simple question that can change every relationship for the better.

Family is messy and complicated. Most of us want to do better than what we grew up with...but how?

In the Book of Revelation, Jesus addresses and evaluates some local churches. He identifies what they’re doing good and what they need to work on…and he warns them about what will happen if they don't get their act together as a local church. It’s a warning with implications for us as well.

Our 3 big problems are sin, sorrow, and death. This is the same problem faced by everyone else in the world, and Jesus has given us our marching orders, giving us the chance to do something about all three!

The marching orders given by Jesus, that have been passed down through generations, calls for us to make something, and if we don’t do it, no one else will. It’s up to us to carry them out!

For all of us "good" people who aren't running from God, we need to ask ourselves a question - if we believe we have surrendered to God's purposes in our lives, have we also surrendered to God's purposes in the world?
